CashBlack A.F.R.O.B.O.T Browser Extension Policy

A.F.R.O.B.O.T is a browser extension that finds Black-owned alternatives to the things you are already shopping for, and activates your cashback when you choose one.

This page describes what it does, what it reads, what leaves your browser and where it does nothing at all. By installing it you agree to our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.

Last updated October 5, 2026.

What It Does

When you search for something, look at a product on a shop's website or browse a page listing several products, the extension asks CashBlack whether we know of a Black-owned brand selling something similar. If we do, it shows you those products in a panel beside what you were already looking at. On a page listing several products, it marks each one that has a Black-owned alternative. If a brand you searched for is already in your own results, it marks that result where it sits.

When you are on the website of a brand that is part of CashBlack, it can show you that brand's cashback offer so you can activate it there and then.

Nothing on the page you are reading is changed. No link of theirs is rewritten, no price is altered and no result is reordered or hidden.

It Never Redirects You

A cashback link is added only when you click Buy this or Activate cashback. Before either button, the extension shows a plain disclosure that it is a cashback link, so you know before you click.

The extension does not redirect you automatically, does not follow you to a shop you were going to anyway, does not rewrite any link you did not click, does not replace anybody's affiliate link with ours and does not set a cashback cookie in the background. That last practice has a name, cookie stuffing, and it is forbidden by the Chrome Web Store and by us.

What It Reads

The extension reads product names and nothing else.

From a page's address it reads only a search term. It never reads anything else on the page: not its content beyond those names, not its prices, not your cart, not your account and not your payment details.

  • On a search engine's results page, or on a shop's own search page, it reads your search term, which it takes from the page's address.
  • On a product page it reads the product's title.
  • On a page listing several products it reads the names of up to 40 of them, so it can mark each one that has a Black-owned alternative.

What Leaves Your Browser

The extension sends CashBlack those product names, or your search term, plus which country's CashBlack you are using and which version of the extension you are running. Nothing else. Not the address of the page you are on, not its content, not its prices, not your name and not your email address.

The search is anonymous. It carries no account and no identifier, and the same search gives the same answer to everybody. We do not build a picture of how you shop, and there is no such record to sell, share or lose.

Only two things can be added to that, and each is described below: a location, if you choose to give one, and the name of the website you are on, only when that website belongs to a CashBlack brand.

Where It Never Runs

The extension is allowed to work on any website, because a Black-owned alternative to something can be found wherever you happen to be looking at it, and limiting it to a list of large retailers would leave out exactly the independent shops where Black-owned brands sell.

That permission is worth something only alongside what it refuses. It never runs on banking, payment, health, government or webmail sites, or on any account, checkout or sign-in page. On cart pages it reads nothing; the one exception is a CashBlack brand's own cart, where it may show a short reminder to activate that brand's cashback, decided from the page's address alone.

That reminder appears only on the cart page of a CashBlack brand's own website, and only if you have not activated that brand's cashback on this visit. It is one line. It reads nothing on that page except its web address, it never appears on a checkout, payment, account or sign-in page or on any other website's cart, and nothing happens unless you press it. Even then, activating still needs a press of Activate, with the disclosure shown first.

The list of places it never runs is written into the extension itself, with a reason recorded against every entry, and it is enforced by the part of the extension that runs on the page rather than only by its settings. That means it holds however the extension was built.

Cashback On CashBlack Brands' Own Websites

The extension keeps a list of the websites of brands that are part of CashBlack on your device, and refreshes it from CashBlack about once a day. It checks the website you are on against that list on your device, so nothing about any other website leaves your browser.

Only when the website you are on belongs to a CashBlack brand does the extension ask CashBlack for that brand's offer. What it sends is that website's name, never the page. It then shows you the cashback offer, and nothing happens until you press Activate.

Your Location, If You Choose

On the Brick & Mortar and To Your Door tabs the extension can show the nearest places first, but only if you choose to give it a location. You can let your browser share your location, which the extension rounds to about 0.6 miles (1 km) before it is saved or sent, or you can type a ZIP code.

Your browser asks your permission at that moment, never when you install the extension. The location is stored on your device and sent only with searches on those two tabs. You can change it or clear it at any time.

What Is Kept On Your Device

The extension keeps these in your browser's own storage:

  • the brands you have come across through it, so it can tell you when one is new to you
  • your Discovery Passport
  • the list of CashBlack brand websites, refreshed about once a day
  • your location, only if you gave one
  • if you are signed in, the token that keeps you signed in

What CashBlack Records

When you press Buy this or Activate cashback we record the click, because that is how cashback is claimed and paid to you.

We also record which part of the extension a click came from and, if you sign in from the extension, that you did and which version you were using (never the token), and we use these for your own badges.

We do not record the searches you make, and we never store your sign-in token.

No Analytics And No Advertising

The extension contains no analytics, no advertising and no third-party code of any kind, so there is no third-party tracking. Nobody but CashBlack receives anything from it, and CashBlack receives only what is described above.

It loads nothing from a third party while you browse, including fonts and images, so no other company learns which pages you visit by way of us.

Your rewards come from what you actually do with the extension, such as the brands you discover and the cashback you activate, and not from watching how you browse. Your Discovery Passport lives on your device. Your badges are worked out by CashBlack from the records described above.

Signing In

Signing in is optional, and you can use the extension without an account. It will still show you Black-owned alternatives, and it will tell you plainly that you need an account to earn cashback rather than implying you are earning it.

You sign in with your CashBlack account, and you need to only to earn cashback. The extension then holds a token that identifies you to CashBlack. It is stored by your browser and never sent to anybody but CashBlack. Signing out clears it from your device.

Removing It

Remove the extension through your browser's own extensions page. Everything it stored on your device goes with it. To close your CashBlack account as well, see our Privacy Policy for how to ask.

Changes To This Page

If we change what the extension reads, what leaves your browser or where it runs, we change this page in the same release. A claim on this page that the extension no longer honours is a bug, and you can report it the way you would report any other.
